Sarah Petite divides her studio practice between Fredericton, and a summer home on the Fundy shore of Nova Scotia - with fully equipped studios in both places. She works entirely in encaustic (beeswax- based, colour-saturated) paint, which she applies to plywood panels with graceful and intriguing shapes.
Carpentry is the first stage of every painting.

These paintings, supported by an Artsnb Creation Grant and the Marie-Helene Alain Award from the Sheila Hugh Mackay Foundation, were created to pay homage to the life and times of Planet Earth, over a span of four billion years. Each work speaks of one of the great geologic ages, its advances and its
extinction events. Their message is half celebration and half cautionary tale.
Trained initially at NSCAD University, Petite has been painting professionally for forty-three years, in encaustic paint for thirty-five. Her works reside in many public and private collections.
