Born in Bathurst, Ann has called Fredericton home since 1985. After a 30+ year science based career with the Federal Government, she retired and returned to school at at NBCCD in the jewelry / metal arts program to explore the creative side of her brain.
A fusion of Celtic and south-west best describes her style. She is influenced by the works of her ancestors, specifically the Vikings and Celts, as well as the style of the native Americans of the US south west. She incorporates old techniques such as viking weave and chainmail when making jewelry. Hammers and files are used to create texture on metal.
Her favourite stone is turquoise but she collects rocks and stones wherever she travels. Her local favourites come from the shores of the Bay of Fundy. Recently, she has taken lapidary classes focusing on opals, both common and precious. She finds it amazing to reveal the inner secrets and beauty of a stone during the process of cutting and polishing.
Ann lives on Grand Lake with her partner Dale. She is enjoying retirement creating wearable art with metal and stone. Additional pieces of Ann’s work can be found at Gallery on Queen, Fredericton and Handworks, Saint John.
